Another walk on the Yarra River Trail today brings some fluffy new family members to the area. Here we have some Australian Wood Ducklings foraging through the grassy riverbank, with (I believe, based on the feathering) mumma in the background.

Passers by were happily observing and quietly snapping shots of the family of at least 8 ducklings plus the two parents. Aside from a small Mynah close by that was flying about and being a bit of a nuisance, the ducks and ducklings where largely unbothered by their celebrity status and were much more interested in what they could find on the ground.

A photo of two ducklings and in the foreground and a duck in the background foraging on a grassy hillside. One of the ducklings on the right is in focus, and the other to the left is slightly blurred. They are covered in down rather than feathers, and their bellies and lower face are white and their backs and head are a mocha brown, and they have a white stripe below and above their eyes. One duckling appears to have its tongue poking out with a little bit of plant material in its mouth. The ground cover is mostly green grass and clover. The duck in the back is likely the mother based on the patterns and colouring, with a dark brown head with white stripes across the eye, and mottled white-and-brown belly feathers with plain duller-brown back feathers.

A photograph of two ducks sitting by the river's edge, basking in the sun on a winter day. Their heads are slightly risen from their bodies and their eyes are open. One duck is on the right of the image and is slightly closer, the other duck is towards the left of the image and is slightly further back. Both ducks are looking towards the left. They are sitting on a stone slab which is above the water level. The river takes up the rest of the image but is blurry due to depth-of-field. The ducks have a spotted body, with the closer duck having a predominantly dark-ish brown body with white spots, and the further duck having a predominantly white body with tan and black spots. They both have brown heads, with the closest duck's head being a slightly orange-brown and the furthest duck a slightly chocolate brown. On the closest duck's head, a line of feathers between the beak and the eye is catching the sunlight and shining.
