Un Cuivré commun (Lycaena phlaeas) venu butiner les fleurs de menthe du jardin 🦋

Je sens que je vais passer pas mal de temps à quatre pattes dans l'herbe…

Macro d'un petit papillon Cuivré commun, ailes fermées, dessus orange vif tacheté de noir et dessous brun-gris, posé sur une grappe de fleurs de menthe mauves. Fond flou beige et crème.

To the right, a few of the petals are visible. The whole photo is mostly yellow, of course. A macro photo of a Small (Cabbage) White butterfly sitting on a large leaf, wings folded up. Its rolled up proboscis, or "trunk", is clearly visible, as well as its huge compound eyes and some spiky hair around its head. A close up photo of three still closed buds of a geranium plant. The buds have long, fine white hair sticking out in all directions, glistening in the sunlight.

This is a close-up photo of a small common blue butterfly which is on top a pink knapweed/star thistle blossom. The knapweed has a long thin green stem. The butterfly jas patterned spots with orange highlights along the edges. In the backgroind there is some warm, soft sunlight.

I just came in from outside after walking with Charlie. The AC guy is here checking out our HVAC systems—one for the house and one for my wife’s little quilting shop. We try to stay ahead of things instead of waiting for something to fail. So far it’s paid off; we’ve gotten about fifteen good years out of the home unit with no issues… knock on wood. Summer days without AC in Louisiana are no joke. I don’t blame the AC guys for coming early in the morning—our inside unit sits up in the attic, and that place turns into an oven by midday.

It should start cooling soon, but not today. Down on the toolbar at the bottom of my computer screen, a little message pops up announcing, “Hot days ahead,” like it’s sending me a warning straight from the future.

I’m sitting here with my feet propped on the corner of my desk while Charlie is stretched out at the base of my chair—pretty much a perfect snapshot of our daily life. Around the house and on the property, if you find me, you find Charlie, and vice versa. Even in the evenings, when I wander into the kitchen looking for something to snack on, Charlie is right there beside me, like two conspirators ready to divvy up the loot.

That’s right—me and Charlie. We be mates. Friends till the end.

I think I’ll end this here. Lately I haven’t felt much inspiration when I sit down to write, so I just drift into whatever’s happening right in front of me. Like the Roomba, currently bumping its way down the hall making all kinds of noise. It’s a Skynet conspiracy.
