Everton Blair is Georgia's first out gay man elected to Congress. My state. The one that spent my entire adult life explaining to me, patiently, why somebody like me could never hold anything at all.

He told voters it would be the honor of his life to serve them. In Georgia, in 2026, an out gay man saying that sentence out loud in front of a microphone is not a nice moment. It's infrastructure.

Who was the first person from your place to hold a thing your place said they couldn't?

A smiling man in a blue suit holds a microphone while speaking at an indoor event, with several people seated and watching in the background.

Upstate New York and New England is such a beautiful area. Such a juxtaposition from the earlier part of the trip.
