Straight off the scan

A covered passage through a building, seen along its length. The vaulted ceiling curves overhead and a round white globe lamp hangs from it in the foreground, with a second one further back. On the left is a heavy stone pillar and a tall green-painted shopfront with a vertical sign reading FIGLMÜLLER. On the right runs a row of old wooden and glass shop windows with brass fittings and small lamps. In the middle distance a person in light clothing with a shoulder bag walks away from the camera along the stone floor. Beyond them the passage opens into daylight, with hanging shop signs including SCHATZ ECKE. Colour photograph on 35mm film, with visible grain.

Slender bare tree trunks and thin tangled branches rise through thick fog that fills the upright frame in soft grey. Nearer trunks are dark and clearly drawn; those behind fade into pale vertical bands, and the topmost twigs dissolve into the light. A leaf-strewn floor with low dark shrubs runs along the bottom. The left edge of the picture is blank white, roughly a fifth of the width, ending in a soft uneven border that brightens the nearest trunk into a pale silhouette. Black-and-white photograph on 35mm film, with visible grain.

An upright frame of pale grey mist in which a few dark vertical shapes stand faintly, most clearly a tall broad trunk left of centre and a thinner one to its right, both fading into the grey as they rise. Fainter vertical streaks appear further right and along the left edge. The tone shifts from lighter grey at the top, brightest in the upper left, to a darker charcoal grey along the bottom third, where all the shapes dissolve. There are no hard edges anywhere and the mist covers everything with a uniform soft grain. Black-and-white photograph on 35mm film, with visible grain.
