Fossilized coral seacliff, late afternoon, Atiu coastline, Cook Islands, South Pacific. May 1990. Atiu's coral reef grows directly from the shoreline and encircles the island. Eruptions from an undersea volcano have raised the inner portion to form these fossilized coral cliffs.

It is very late in the afternoon. The partly cloudy sky has patches of light blue, with low clouds and fog along the horizon. To the right is the blue green ocean, graying in the fading light. A low point of land is just visible through that low cloud. To the left are rugged naked brown fossilized coral sea cliffs, almost vertical, dozens of feet (20-30 meters) high. A rock of the same material is just offshore. Although the cliff faces are barren, there is lush green ground cover growing right up to the edge at the top, with green shrubs and trees growing from it starting a few feet (1-2 meters) in. The tall, slender trees are swaying gracefully in an onshore breeze.

This is a colourful seascape photo in landscape format of the anchorage in the Singapore Strait with multiple anchored cargo ships together with the morning sun only a few degrees above the horizon. Singapore (2017). The relatively calm sea with only small wavelets disturbing the surface, rises upwards from the base of the photo to the halfway up level where there is a crisp horizon dividing the sea from the sky. In the centre of the photo is the stern of a medium sized mixed cargo ship, at anchor. The view is slightly oblique with the stern and port side in view and at a distance of about five hundred metres and with the height of the ship being about a quarter of the height of the image. The ship is partially in shadow though the stern superstructure is clearly defined with multiple bright lights illuminating the four visible decks and with the wheelhouse on top.
