🆕⚓🇬🇧 New location feature: HMS Bronington, England

Former minesweeper currently moored in Birkenhead, England. Decommissioned 30 years of service, she sank at her moorings in 2016 and lists to her starboard side.

The vessel once operated as a museum. Now, charity trust working hard to secure funding for restoration.

This is a black and white photo in portrait format looking along the length of a long Chinese Dragon Boat from the stern, and located in a framed cover for the off season. Tai O, Hong Kong (2014). The camera is located aft of the stern and one metre above, positioned in above the centre of the boat and angled along the length towards the bow. The boat is very long, thin, with a sharp bow and stern, open, much like an oversized Canadian canoe. Extending the entire length of the craft is a central wooden plank. Mounted below and at right angles to the central plank are multiple (35) smaller planks of wood that stretch the short distance from one side of the hull to the other. The long and narrow boat reaches it maximum beam (width) in the centre of the length before tapering gently into a sharp bow. In the lower left corner of the photo, mounted in the stern is a stout piece of wood mounted on top of the last lateral plank, this stretches over the left side with two large vertical pins.

The is a dawn colour photo in landscape format of a small coastal cargo ship being towed backwards along a city river surrounded by high-rise apartment buildings with the raised Brickell Avenue bascule road bridge ahead. Miami River, Florida (2012). The lower 10% of the image is filled with dark and slightly rippled river water. Extending from the right edge of the photo to the centre is the aft section of the small to medium sized cargo ship, with the stern portion of the medium blue hull and white superstructure in view. The ship fills the entire height of the image, half the width and is viewed from 10m away. The blue hull, while clean is very dented with numerous ribs visible around the depressions in the hull. Above the rounded stern is the accommodation and wheelhouse superstructure with 3 decks of small square windows below the wheelhouse. Minimalistische Schwarzweiss-Aufnahme eines Fahrgastschiffs aus stark erhöhter Vogelperspektive. Das kleine Passagierschiff fährt unten rechts im Bild über eine weite, hellgrau schimmernde Wasserfläche. This is a black and white photo in landscape format of a Bulk Carrier ship leaving port and passing a lighthouse located at the end of a breakwater. San Pedro, California (2018). The rippled and silver toned sea water rises from the base of the photo upwards to the one third up level. In the centre of the image is the stern of our medium sized (178m long) bulk cargo ship, underway and moving away from the camera at a slow speed, leaving little wake behind. The vessel is viewed obliquely with the stern and port side in view, with the ship filling a third of the width and a third of the height of the photo and viewed from about 20m away. The ship is riding high in the water with 3m of dark antifouling in view with a lighter toned hull above. The white accommodation and wheelhouse superstructure is close to the stern with a tall rectangular funnel above. Forward are four large cranes spaced evenly on the centreline of the deck. This is a sunrise photo in landscape format of two passing container ships, one leaving port, one arriving. Vancouver, BC (2017). The light blue and rippled harbour water rises from the base of the photo upwards to the halfway up level. In the foreground and to the left of centre is the bow and forward section of a large container ship entering port. The ship is viewed in profile with the bow and forward ten to fifteen metres section in view and with the camera positioned about thirty metres away. The ship is underway from left to right at a very slow speed, that is hardly causing any wake. The vessel is in shadow but a few details are visible. Aft of the bow on the upper part of the hull is the vessel's name 'MSC LISA' with a short white mast on the deck above. Behind are a number of multi coloured '40 foot' shipping containers. Anyway, here’s a New York City Fire Department ship making pretty fountains for the Fourth of July.

On the waters of New York Harbor, a red-and-white FDNY firefighting ship passes in front of the Statue of Liberty as its hoses spout high arcs of water dyed red, white and blue.

Passed by this boat on my way to see the tall ships docked at the Brooklyn waterfront. I thought this was a working fire boat, but it turns out to be a retired FDNY firefighting vessel from the 1960s that’s now used as a floating restaurant — named Fireboat, naturally.

A small ship docked at a pier in New York Harbor, with a red hull and a white deckhouse with “FIREBOAT” painted on the side. In between some vertical metal posts on the pier we can see a building structure and trees on Governors Island, and a tiny Statue of Liberty in the distance. Below is a stretch of calm waves; above is an overcast sky.
