While it's much more likely that this Rosella was eating, I much prefer to consider that it was deep in thought, stroking the bird equivalent of a beard. A beark? A beard-eak? Hmm...

Warburton, Victoria, Australia

A photograph of a rosella perched on a tree branch. One leg is on the branch, the other leg is up at its beak. Two toes are open either side of the beak, as if they were a thumb and forefinger stroking a beard in thought. The Rosella is very colourful, with splashes of red, green and blue mottled throughout. The belly is predominantly red, the shoulders and back are green, and the face is mostly red with blue cheeks. The branches are mostly bare but the ends of the thin branches show buds forming. There are small patches of lichen on some ares of the thicker branches. The sky is overcast - it is a dull but glarey day.

Some of the many stalwart redwood trees at the forest named after them in Warburton.

This is my second visit to the forest, and it still delivers. It's a lovely tranquil area, with nice ferny-bush surroundings and a river running down the back of the redwood area. There's also plenty of mushrooms poking out of fallen trees and such that will almost certainly appear in some future photos here...

Warburton, Victoria, Australia

A photograph of the base of a redwood tree. The tree occupies most of the right hand side of the image, connecting to the ground about 1/3 of the way from the bottom of the photo, and is reddish-brown bark. The ground is covered in brown redwood leaf litter and varies from light to dark, some is saturated and some is pale. In the background is more redwood trees, and the green leaves of those trees can be seen though they are blurry. A little light can be seen from the sky as well. The scene is dimly lit, with sunlight coming from behind filtering through the redwood trees from behind before reaching the scene in front. Much of the scene is in shadow, including the redwood trees in the background.

This cheeky kooka was hoping to nab some snacks at the outdoor dining area of a restaurant, but the staff here are clearly familiar with this game and routinely shoo them away.

Earlier, one was perched on a fence looking away from the seated area and received a tap on the back before begrudgingly hopping away. They're clearly a little too comfortable.
