Armoured eye

Conservationists at the Instituto Jacaré track animal movements, behaviour and health to assess how native species adapt to environmental degradation and habitat loss caused by urban expansion.

A extreme close-up side profile of a reptile's eye, likely a crocodile or caiman, emerging from shadow. The eye features a sharp, vertical black slit pupil surrounded by a yellow and speckled iris, set within dark, textured, bumpy skin. Light illuminates the top and side of the head, highlighting the intricate ridge patterns and moisture on its scales against a dark, moody background.

Albert Park Lake, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

A photograph of a Coot on the water of a lake. The coot is in the centre-point of the lower-left third, and is swimming directly towards the camera. It is leaving a well-defined wake in the water behind it, one trail on each side of it. The surface of the lake is otherwise covered moderately in horizontal ripples, with a gradient from blue at the bottom of the frame towards a reflective white at the top of the photo. The coot has a prominent white shield on its forehead, is black-feathered, and its red eyes are present but barely perceptible in this photo.

This is a close-up portrait of a local brown tabby cat. They are looking slightly off to the side with an intense smouldering/blue steel gaze. They have greenish-yellow eyes, white whiskers, and dark stripes. The background is just some grey concrete slabs.
