Und da heute neben auch noch ist, gibt es dazu das Foto einer Legende (unter Eisenbahnfans) und einstigem Rückgrat des dieselbetriebenen Schienenverkehrs in Deutschland.

DB Triebfahrzeug Baureihe 218

Baujahr 1973, gebaut in der bekannten Kasseler Lokomotivfabrik Henschel & Sohn

Im Vordergrund steht eine gelbe Diesellokomotive der Baureihe 218 mit der Nummer '218 261-6'. Das DB-Logo ist mittig auf der Front angebracht. Die Lokomotive befindet sich auf einem Gleis im Freien, umgeben von Kies und einem Zaun. Der Himmel ist klar und tiefblau, im Hintergrund sind Bäume und weitere Gleisanlagen zu erkennen.

This is a black and white photo in portrait format of a San Francisco Cable Car cross roads with one cable car moving a right angles across the camera and the other travelling away. San Francisco, California (2013). Extending from the right edge of the photo to the centre is the front of the first cable car, viewed from no more than two metres away. Peering around the front is the head of a young boy, holding onto a white vertical hand hold. The base (chassis) is black metal with the wheels out of view below the image. Above, on the front, are three rectangular wooden panel. The near panel has a small advert. The centre has a single headlight and the number 6 above while the far panel has the route of the cable car. Above are three vertical rectangular windows with the roof above. On the far side of the cable car is the other further identical cable car, in motion away from the camera and at right angles to the first. The left side is in view with the rear obscured by the first car. I

I think it's fair to say that North Wales has got game!

Looking at two parallel train tracks curving into the distance from a brick-paved station platform. The tracks disappear under a moss and ivy covered medieval stone archway which is part of a town wall. The tracks and arch are surrounded by full green trees under a cloudy blue sky.

The Lartigue monorail in Listowel, Ireland, is different from other monorails that I've seen 😀

‘The Lartigue Monorail system was developed by the French engineer Charles Lartigue (1834–1907). He further developed a horse drawn monorail system, which had been invented by Henry Robinson Palmer in 1821…. Instead of the conventional two parallel rails on the ground, it had a single rail sitting above the sand and held at waist height on A-shaped trestles. The carriages sat astride the trestles like panniers.’

‘The Listowel-Ballybunion Railway was opened in 1888 at a cost of £30,000 and it ran for 36 years until it was closed in 1924. The train carried passengers, freight, cattle and sand from the Ballybunion sand-hills. … The line was only barely financially viable for the whole of its existence; it is reputed never to have made a profit. The closure was hastened by the severe damage that was inflicted on the line during the civil war of 1921-23.

… The Railway has about 1000 metres of monorail track, three switches, two turntables and three platforms representing Listowel, Lisselton and Ballybunion. There is one engine, which is an exact reproduction of the original engines, save that the present engine (62 Loco No. 4 0-2-0) is diesel driven. There are two third class carriages, modeled as closely as possible on the originals, using photographs and the memory of those who traveled in them.’

An jenem Tag sollte die Kamera mal daheim bleiben. Und dann stand da dieser Einkaufswagen an einem Bahnübergang mitten im Nirgendwo der . Und dann näherte sich auch noch HANS – die örtliche Bimmelbahn. Mit etwas Nachbearbeitung ist das Smartphone-Foto aber ganz passabel geworden, finde ich.

I had planned to leave my camera at home that day. And then there was this shopping cart at a railroad crossing in the middle of nowhere in the Seenplatte (lake district). And then HANS—the local train—approached. With a little editing, though, I think the smartphone photo turned out pretty decent.

This is a colour, long exposure, night time street photo in portrait format of a city street scene photographed from above displaying motion blurred trams, cars and people. Causeway Bay, Hong Kong (2014). The camera is positioned on an pedestrian bridge about five metres above the street and angled along a fifty metre, straight section of road before the road bends out view to the left. Under the camera and extending away into the distance is a pair of rail tracks embedded into the street. A few metres to the left is a further, parallel pair of tracks. In the centre of the image and partially blurred, is the front of a yellow double deck electric tram. The front of the tram is slightly transparent with parts of the street visible underneath. The dark, back of the tram extends away from the camera perhaps ten metres marking its passage along the street before it stopped. On the left side of tracks is a further tram, this one is purple and not as ghostly and transparent as the first. Th
