This is a grungy black and white street photo in landscape format of a leaking fire hydrant on the side of a city pavement with a few small chunks of ice to one side. Madison Ave, NYC (2012). In the foreground is the road surface rising up from the base of the photo to less than the quarter way up level. At the base, the surface is jet black, then becoming a lighter tone closer to the metal curb strip where the pavement start. Slightly to the right of centre is our black cylindrical fire hydrant. The hydrant is viewed from the same level and from two metres away. It rise up a little over one metre with a silver cone shaped top, peaked by a large square shaped nut. Below the cone, on the left side is a dome shaped cover with a hexagonal nut on the right side. From both the dome and the nut is a steady stream of water falling a short distance onto the pavement below. This is an abstract black and white photo in portrait format of an enormous framework of bamboo scaffolding surrounding the west side of the Hong Kong Convention Centre in Wan Chai (2014). Filling the entire photo is this vast frame of multiple poles of bamboo attached to each other with lengths of plastic binding straps. The camera is set back from the structure by no more than ten metres and is angled directly at the frame. The base, sides and top of the scaffold are out of view outside the edges of the photo. The bamboo is fashioned into squares of about one metre in length and height. Each pole overlaps the next pole by about two metres with that area secured using numerous binding straps similar or identical to those used to wrap a large package. In view are thirteen horizontal lengths and eight vertical poles. Behind those lengths at the front is a vast matrix of further poles extending towards the building. This is a high contrast abstract, black and white photo in portrait format of the tower section of a historic cantilever road bridge brightly lit by the still low morning sun with a clear and cloudless sky rendered jet black. 59th Street Bridge, NYC (2012). The camera is angled steeply upwards at a section of the tower of this steel cantilever bridge. The white lattice and truss metal work is brightly lit by the just risen morning sun. The structure is an orderly jumble of straight lengths of steel, mostly trusses made up from metal formed into lattices and then riveted into a long box like trusses. Some of the lengths are vertical, some horizontal and a few diagonal. Just visible spanning the top are long lengths of steel plating, all of the lengths closely spaced together and extending from the anchorage, on land, over the towers to the far anchorage with vertical struts descending down and supporting the road deck below, which in this case is hidden below the base of the photo.

This is a simple black and white wildlife photo of two Humpback Whales swimming side-by-side with just the top of their backs and small dorsal fins visible above the water and a small iceberg in the background. Southern Ocean (2024). Dominating most of the photo is a smooth expanse of sea water with just the smallest ripples disturbing the surface. Below and to the left of centre are our two Humpback Whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) viewed from slightly above and at a distance of five metres. The whales are swimming along the surface, their wakes causing only the smallest disturbance in the water behind them. All that is visible is the long ridge of their black backs, perhaps five or more metres in length and the small dorsal fin to the rear of the back. The whales are swimming slowly side-by-side, only a few metres apart with the closest being very slightly ahead of the farther whale. This is a black and white photo in portrait format looking along the length of a long Chinese Dragon Boat from the stern, and located in a framed cover for the off season. Tai O, Hong Kong (2014). The camera is located aft of the stern and one metre above, positioned in above the centre of the boat and angled along the length towards the bow. The boat is very long, thin, with a sharp bow and stern, open, much like an oversized Canadian canoe. Extending the entire length of the craft is a central wooden plank. Mounted below and at right angles to the central plank are multiple (35) smaller planks of wood that stretch the short distance from one side of the hull to the other. The long and narrow boat reaches it maximum beam (width) in the centre of the length before tapering gently into a sharp bow. In the lower left corner of the photo, mounted in the stern is a stout piece of wood mounted on top of the last lateral plank, this stretches over the left side with two large vertical pins.

This is a colour photo in portrait format of the front facade of a multi-floored, highly ornate and colourful, Buddhist temple located in Chinatown, Singapore (2012). Extending along the base of the photo is a string of multi-coloured, square flags that stretch from the left to the right edge of the photo, this is above the entrance which is out of view below. Above is a tiled, pitched roof that again stretches across the image. The roof is covered with glazed, grey, oriental tiles with a lintel that extends along the ridge of the roof with a large bright golden mythical figure head at each end of the ridge. Between the roof and the row of flags is a large rectangular plaque with a golden filagree surround and three large golden Chinese characters. This is a colour wildlife photo in landscape format of a Gentoo Penguin, racing away with a small rock in its beak, having just stolen it from another penguin's nest (they use small rocks, stones or pebbles as a nesting material). Booth Island, Antarctica (2024). In the foreground is a large, smooth and sloping rock, stained a medium red or brown, that rises up from the lower left corner, extends over to the right margin and rises upwards to a little less than the quarter up level. In the centre of the photo is our thieving Gentoo Penguin hurrying from left to right. The penguin is viewed obliquely with right side and back in view, filling most the height of the photo and view from a few metres away and at the same level as the bird. The camera is angled upwards and a few metres from the tree. The fronds have a long and thin branch stretching outwards from the top of the tree's trunk with a fan like collection of long, thin and sharp leaves at the end. Through the palm fronds the outline of the building can be seen but any clear definition is obscured. The building is perhaps five metres beyond the tree.
