This is a simple black and white wildlife photo of two Humpback Whales swimming side-by-side with just the top of their backs and small dorsal fins visible above the water and a small iceberg in the background. Southern Ocean (2024). Dominating most of the photo is a smooth expanse of sea water with just the smallest ripples disturbing the surface. Below and to the left of centre are our two Humpback Whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) viewed from slightly above and at a distance of five metres. The whales are swimming along the surface, their wakes causing only the smallest disturbance in the water behind them. All that is visible is the long ridge of their black backs, perhaps five or more metres in length and the small dorsal fin to the rear of the back. The whales are swimming slowly side-by-side, only a few metres apart with the closest being very slightly ahead of the farther whale.
