This is a composite/double exposure (the lightning is just a free png the rest is mine). There is a large bolt of lightning which branches across dark storm clouds in the upper left of the photo. Below the stormy sky there's a white house which is nestled among a dense, dark forest of trees on hills.

Here's my favourite shot, looking out over the Peterstal valley with the Kƶnigstuhl on the left. The centre is partly illuminated by Heidelberg beyond the hills, hence the range of colours.

Nikon Z6 III, Nikkor Z 24-200mm at 24mm, f/4, 10 sec, ISO 100 (I need a wider lens šŸ™‚)

The sky is full of cloud, some darker above and to the left, illuminated by several bolts of lightning from the left and right sides. Most of the picture is blue grey, but the centre is a little more yellow, due to reflected streetlights from a city about 5km away.

Was watching the radar and feeling bummed that Tucson was getting the storms, then the little puffy cloud that could lit up red (rain core) on the radar, so I grabbed me gear and went 5 minutes to my favorite spot and got two nice shots.

Night time in the desert. A long "crawler" type lightning bolt runs horizontally across the otherwise dark, cloudy sky in the background, spreading out into half a dozen electric fingers. In the foreground, two large saguaro cactus are mostly silhouetted. Late afternoon desert lightning strike. The main bolt lands on a far, hazy ridgeline. A secondary bolt reaches out horizontally across the top of the frame. The foreground is open desert with lots of saguaro cactus in the distance. The clouds are a warm sunset orange, brighter where lit up by the lightning flashes.

This is a photo of a purple lightning bolt which is stretched horizontally across a dark night sky. The bolt illuminates the surrounding clouds with a deep violet hue as it as it comes out from a silhouette of a tree and a distant tower which are on a dark hilltop below.

This cliff site is Lightning Dreaming, one of the creation stories of the Gun-djeihmi-speaking people. It's part of the story of one of the creation ancestors, Namarrkon, who is responsible for the violent lightning storms that occur every tropical summer. "He uses the axes on his head, elbows and feet to split the dark clouds and make lightning and thunder. Namarrkonā€™s story in this area is part of a larger story. It covers his journey from the coastline of the Coburg Peninsula to a rock shelter in the sandstone country of the Arnhem Land plateau, where he remains today. During his travels, Namarrkon left his power behind at many places. On Namarrkonā€™s last journey, he approached the Arnhem Land escarpment from the east and looked over the sheer wall. He took out an eye and placed it high on the cliff at Namarrkondjahdjam (Lightning Dreaming), where it sits waiting for the storm season.
