I’m increasingly fond of photographs taken when the weather isn’t trying to cooperate.

At Étretat, the grey Normandy sky took most of the colour out of the landscape. The sea and cliffs almost merged into the same muted palette.

Then a bird crossed the frame.

Sometimes imperfect conditions give a place exactly the mood the photograph needs. 📷

Mont Saint-Michel is fascinating to photograph because the place seems to change completely as you approach it.

From far away, it’s all about that unmistakable silhouette rising above the landscape. Once inside, the scale changes: stone walls, towers, narrow passages, textures and architectural details everywhere you look.

All on your own on the cliffs of Normandy, enjoying the sweeping views of the sea, the peace and quiet, and the fresh air.

Blick von der Steilküste aufs Meer. Nach links blickt man auf den steilen Abhang mit unterschiedlich farbigen Schichten. Im Vordergrund ist Gras zu sehen. Das Sonnenlicht reflektiert in der relativ glatten Oberfläche des Meeres. Am Himmel sind einige, kleine Wolken zu sehen.

Today, the mill is once again in operation, with the miller producing flour from black wheat, wheat, rye and other grains. He also gives entertaining guided tours, sharing the mill’s history with plenty of passion and humor. 🌾
