Perfect summer evening at the lake. The ground hugging green plants that, when seen from a distance, slightly resemble grass are throwing out thousands of tiny yellow flowers. New Britain Reservoir, Southington, Connecticut. August 3, 2020, 6:52 PM.

Summer evening beside a large lake. A blue sky, still visible on the right side, is becoming filled with streaky white high clouds with some small dark and dramatic clouds below. The unseen sun is getting low in the sky, adding a golden color to the streaky clouds along the horizon. Below that, a low wooded ridge rises above the far shore of the lake. The near shore of the lake and a very low, narrow peninsula about 100 feet out create a small cove in front of us. There are a few small ripples on the surface of the lake, which reflects the sky and far shore. Both lake shores and the peninsula are covered with a carpet of ground hugging plants with very small green leaves that resembles grass from a distance once you are far away enough to not be able to pick out the leaves. Thousands of tiny yellow flowers are sprouting from that ground cover. A few gray boulders and small flowering shrubs also poke through in spots.

A cloudless soft blue summer sky. We are emerging from a shady forest onto the edge of a large sloping field high on a mountainside. We are looking down across wooded foothills to a long narrow valley below. The field is bathed in sunshine. The lush green grass has been mowed not long ago. It is several inches high and sprinkled with dozens of white blossoms. This field descends towards lower fields that appear to be pastures. The fields are divided by a line of stately well-spaced trees and a grove to our left. There are glimpses of a few more distant fields, but most of the scene beyond the fields is covered with a forest split almost equally between evergreens and hardwoods. The long valley is mostly wooded with strips of fields and a few buildings visible. Beyond that the blue green slopes of a long, forested mountain range rise hundreds of feet above the valley. Several rounded peaks are visible.

Hang Tight 🦗 for "Detailfotografie" / "Detail photography"

This is a photo of a yellowish-brown grasshopper (at least from my research it appears to be an Egyptian Grasshopper and not a locust - but I am not sure!). It is hanging on to a leaf with head-downward and is against a dark, pitch-black background. Its body, compound eyes, antennas and jointed legs are lit up and in focus which helps to contrast against the dark surroundings. At least that was the plan 😂

An overgrown field at the edge of the forest, filled with very tall grasses and leafy shrubs sprinkled with dozens of yellow and white wildflowers. It is a bit past sunset, the forest is dark and mysterious in the evening light. The pale blue sky is filled with a dramatic mass of cotton candy clouds painted bright pink by that setting sun.

Looking across a vast meadow of waist-high golden-brown grass with occasional strands of green grass and a few leafy green plants. A nearby single spruce tree frames the scene to our left. Far across the meadow is a forest of mostly spruce and fir with some northern hardwoods starting to turn fall colors. This forest continues up the flank and along the gently undulating crest of a long relatively low mountain running along the horizon. A cloudless deep blue sky.
