This is a black and white water sports photo in landscape format of a female teen surfing shortly after sunrise. Hermosa Beach, California (2013).

Stretching from the right edge of the photo to a little less than the half way across point is a fierce braking Pacific wave. The wave which is now a little less than two metre high, is moving from right to left, viewed from two metres above and a few metres away from the closest point. The wave has multiple streaks or lines extending at right angles to the wave, from the crest and out to sea. Ahead of the breaking wave is our young female surfer. She is positioned slightly to the right of centre in the maelstrom of white foaming surf and is in motion diagonally across the photo from the centre towards the lower left corner. Our surfer is viewed from the front, with her standing on the board sideways (standing on the board and facing to the left). She is viewed from above at five metres distant and with her occupying half the height of the

Bald Hills and the Redwood Creek watershed were generally obscured by smoke yesterday as this image from the trail to Lyons Ranch shows. The smoke was widespread, visible along Bald Hills road above Lady Bird Johnson Grove. Temperatures in the higher elevation areas have been in the high 80s and low 90s. This photograph shows blue sky (top) above smoke-shrouded hills (center) and dry, golden colored vegetation in the foreground. The hills in the middle ground are covered with deep green colored trees, except in the areas where active logging is occurring on lands adjacent to the park (a patchwork of clear-cuts runs from left to right in the middle third of the photo).
